26 Years OLD

I had a good birthday yesterday, as long as I am not considering my bad ponytail hair day. I got snowed on really good on our walk from our car to Luke's school and that was the end of looking nice for the day, but oh well. I took myself and the boys to Old Grist Mill after school because I was craving a turkey sandwich and thought what the heck, it's my birthday why not. I then regretted it once we got there and Luke fell off his chair, sending him and the chair crashing to the floor, (,very embarrassing....for me!) then some kid I didn't know wanted to know if I was waving to him from my car as I pulled up (I wasn't, as I said I didn't know who he was) but I was very embarrassed again because he was talking very loudly and I'm sure people were thinking I go around hitting on strange people with my children while I am married. Then Lance announced he had to go potty right as the food came, I didn't know what else to do but just pack up all our stuff in my purse, make a trip to the bathroom and finish eating our food in the car. It was a very eventful trip to Old Grist Mill, the serenity of my car was nice. We went to Maddox for dinner with my whole family that night, which was great fun, I love Maddox, it's probably my favorite restaraunt.
Lancey was such a sweetheart he was so excited it was my birthday, all day long he would randomly say "Mommy Happy Birthday" and would then hug me and ask when he was seeing "Carsy". I think he was more excited about spending time with Carson then celebrating my birthday but I'll take it nonetheless.
Wouldn't be a night out in a restaurant if Luke didn't puke everywhere, I have quite the list going of him throwing up right in the middle of eating. My kids have the most sensitive stomachs in the world. He got coughing to hard and that was the end of my turkey steak.

We then went to my mom's house for cake and icecream, which was great! We love celebrating our birthday together, it never felt right in Kentucky when we were apart on our special day.

Thanks to everyone who celebrated with us, it was a great night, I love you all!

Here was my birthday surprise from Eric, poor guy ordered them a week ago and they promised they would be delivered on my birthday. Towards the end of the day when I still hadn't received them he finally had to break the surprise and ask me if they had come. They ended up coming this afternoon. Thanks hon, I love them just the same. I think the last time he ordered flowers for me was our first anniversary, so it was fun to recieve them!

Not to mention they go perfect with my Valentine decorations, I love them!

Happy Birthday Twin!!

Tomorrow is me and Teri's 26th birthday, yuck, I can't believe I am that old, I am now officially in my late twenties and not early twenties, so sad. It will be kind of a hectic day tomorrow so Teri is getting her birthday post a day early. I love you my sister, happy birthday to you!
Top 10!!!
1. She is the best big sister, she really is older than me by 10 minutes and she has always played that role so well as big sister. I remember in Kindergarten I was to shy to say here when our teacher called role in the morning. Teri would say it for me and never think anything of it, she just knew I needed her and did it without me even asking. I have always been happy to follow in her footsteps, she is definitely the leader and I am definitely the follower.
2. Her energy is contagious, my mom and sisters and I always joke that we all love to be together and when one of us is missing it's just not quite the same. Without Teri around the rest of us are pretty dull, she is the life of the party. However it works both ways, you know the saying "when mom ain't happy, ain't nobody happy", well for us it's "when Teri ain't happy ain't nobody happy".
3. She is beautiful, I have always thought both of my sisters out shown me in the looks department. Ashley is just beautiful in general and while so is Teri, I think it's her confidence in herself that makes her so gorgeous. She never doubts herself, she's just goes out and does her thing, never stopping for a minute to think she may fall short.
4. She always knows just the thing to say to make me feel better when I am having a hard day. She is so quick to compliment and let me know of my worth in life and that what I am doing is worth it. It's been hard having Eric gone, Teri is always the first person to tell me how much she admires me as a mother, as a wife and as a person in general. She makes me feel like I hung the moon and let's face it we all want to feel that way once in a while.
5. She is constantly making our family laugh, she is one of a kind that's for sure. Let me tell you a little about her quirks and you can see for yourself. She is obsessed with her house and keeping it clean, if me and the boys are over visiting she lines all of our stuff up by the door sometimes kicking it out into the garage. If I didn't know she genuinely wanted me there, I would think she was trying to send a subtle message to get out. She spends hours and I mean hours straightening the tassels on her rugs. She hates when I borrow her things, she will borrow mine and Ashley's for weeks trying to steal them from us. But if I even need to borrow a pair of socks I get the look of death. Ter you are too funny, I don't mean these things in a bad way, without them the rest of us would have nothing to laugh about.
6. She is constantly busy, I am definitely the odd man out in my family. My mom and sisters always have to be doing something, and if they don't have anything to do they make stuff up that needs to be done. For instance I will call her up and ask what she is doing, here are some of her answers; organizing pens, pulling weeds (even though she just did it yesterday), lysoling her kitchen because Thiago happened to make breakfast that morning (keep in mind normal people would take maybe 10 minutes, this task takes her an hour), ironing Lincoln's onesies (really who does this?), my most favorite thing she does is toy inventory. She goes through each and every one of Carson's toys to make sure no pieces are missing and if one little things is it gets thrown out.
7. We have the same stupid sense of humor, we are usually the only ones that find our jokes funny. And not only funny but we can spend a good twenty minutes laughing about the same stupid joke. Example one time we were playing Phase 10 with each other, just the two of us, because we couldn't talk anyone else into playing with us. I had a skip card and it was my turn, obviously I should skip her as my component but I skipped myself. She looked at me like I was crazy for like half a second and then realized I was kidding. I am almost embarrassed to tell this story it's so stupid but we laughed for a week straight about that one, while everyone else told us we were retarded.
8. I firmly believe that twins have a sixth sense when it comes to each other. Teri knows me like nobody else does, my thoughts, my actions, everything. We can both be in the same situation and react completely different but right away she knows what I am thinking and how I will respond. We are constantly finishing each other's sentences and what makes me laugh is whenever I see that she has already commented on a mutual friends blog I have to read her comment before I put mine otherwise it would be exactly the same.
9. She has a horrible taste in movies and TV shows, we always joke not to let Teri pick the movie because the rest of us will most likely end up asleep or bored to tears. And yet she finds no interest in some of the greatest movies, October Sky, Mamma Mia, Rudy, and for the life of me I can not convince her to give Harry Potter a try. Ter as my birthday present please please please finish the series so you can come with me to the new movie in July, PLEASE!
10. She is one of my best friends, she has been there for me my whole life. For as long as I can remember we have been the best of friends even in junior high and high school there was nobody I wanted to hang out with more than her. She is so protective of me and always wants the best for me even over her own happiness. I got so lucky when I got blessed with her as a sister, what would I do without you, happy birthday I love you!

6th Anniversary!!

The 23rd was Eric and I's six year wedding anniversary. We have had kind of a bad luck streak with our anniversary's in the past, this year was slightly better than some but still....left some to be desired. Our first year was wonderful we went out to dinner in Salt Lake and spent the night at Little America playing and shopping all day the following day. Our second year was pretty good in fell on a Sunday so we celebrated on the 22nd with dinner and a movie. It has gone way downhill from then on, our third year was our first year in Kentucky Eric had late classes that day that didn't get over until nine at night, we had dinner at home and that was about it. Our fourth year was spent taking turns sitting with Luke in the NICU and last year Luke had surgery on his ears and we found out he was severely deaf. Wow! Hard to beat such exciting years but we tried our darnedest this year.

Eric flew into Utah yesterday at noon, me and the boys went and picked him up. We then spent the next four, yes four hours trying to get the oil changed in my car, he usually does it himself but the last time it needed changing we took it into Jiffy Lube and they tightened the cap or whatever it's called with some kind of machine, way hard to get off. So.....an hour later he gave up the idea of doing it himself and took it into Jiffy Lube where they were anything but jiffy. 6:30 we finally start heading back to Logan only to take an extra hour in the horrible fog, we picked up my Granny O who was babysitting for the boys at 8, at 8:15 Lance threw himself into a gigantic fit that we were leaving him and threw up all over the place. Finally at 8:45 we arrived at the restaurant Hamilton's for a much needed night out with each other or should I say much needed hour seeing how we were kind of in a rush to get home and put the boys to bed. So there you have it, another wonderful anniversary, next year is going to be wonderful. I am going to start planning now to ensure an all day party of fun for the two of us, yeah right. Honey I love you and would not change these crazy days for anything like that country song says "It's just another day in paradise". Happy anniversary to us!

Cousins, cousins and more cousins!

We had a weekend full of family and playing with cousins, it was wonderful and busy just the best kind of weekends in my opinion. On Saturday Ash was going skiing with my mom and Dean so I babysat her kids all day long. It was so great, all of the kids were such angels, minus Luke he was being his usual crazy self. I think he got into more trouble alone than the other three did combined, but I guess that is just one of those little loveable things about my Loubird. It was so great being able to bond with Brevy and Elle, Ash I am not lying you really do have two of the sweetest little kids ever. We made brownies, watched movies, the boys terrorized my house while I spent hours playing dress up with a little girl, it was heaven!

It's quiet time while the boys watched "Santa Clause", yet again, and yes it's 2:00 in the afternoon and only one child is out of pajamas, I think it's safe to say I would not make a good mother of four under three years old.

Here is my princess of the day, just look at that hair I styled all by myself, I was way impressed with how cute she looked and I am taking all the credit. I definitely need a little girl one day, she was delightful.

Cute boys, at this moment I believe Luke was dumping all of the bath toys in the toilet, lucky for me I caught him right as he was trying to flush it, no plumber needed.

On Sunday we went over to Ashley's to celebrate Brevy's 2nd birthday, they had a huge birthday party for him, her house was so full, but it was so much fun, thanks Ash!

What a geek, Luke trying on Ashley's boots while trying to dance with Brevy at the same time, I am not really sure why he is still in his pajamas.

Lance was such a little helper this weekend, he loves baby Elle and constantly wanted to hold and cuddle her. He would scold the other boys when anyone so much as looked at her, went on countless diaper runs and helped give her a bottle. Oh daddy maybe it's time for baby number three ha ha, at least I know Lance is ready to be a big brother again, even if the rest of his family, isn't quite ready for that.

This picture just kills me, all four of the big boys love Curious George, Brevy's birthday was themed around him and there was a big giant balloon that they were all obsessed with. Somehow one of them broke it off the string and it got trapped up in the ceiling. They all danced around the bottom of the staircase screaming as Ash and then Thiago attempted to rescue it, you can imagine their delight when Georgie was safe again.

Lance is ecstactic about this whole party, just look at that smile as they are stuffing goody bags, he was loving the whole process.

Lance was so funny I was the designated photographer for Ash while Brevy was opening his presents, Lance was so cute before I started taking pictures he came up to me and said "mommy will you take a cheese (picture) of me and presents. Weirdo... of course I said yes, here he is posing by the loot.

Luke being Luke, heaven forbid he get into the play set by using the stairs, ....NO every time he had to go in headfirst, though I was a little upset this time because his hearing aids fell out and it took me awhile to find them again, they were stuck in between the rails.
It was a great weekend we had so much fun with my family on Martin Luther King Day Luke didn't have school and nobody had to work so we went to Olive Garden for lunch and did some shopping. I now have the cutest Valentines decorations that my mom helped me pick out (that's why they are so cute, my mom has the touch). And then that night we went to Applebees to celebrate Brevy's actual birthday. Fun, fun weekend, thanks family!

Happy Birthday Brevy!

It was my little nephew Brevin's birthday yesterday, we love you little guy, and were so glad we were able to celebrate with you.
Top ten reasons we love Brevin Bounthanh Phongsavath.
1. That cute little smile, nobody smiles quite like him, he really hams it up and loves to put on his "cheese" face. Though somehow it is just as cute as an actual smile. Whenever my kids cheese it they just look ridiculous, Brevy looks absolutely darling and I love it!
2. His love for balls, I babysat him and Elle on Saturday, he brought his two favorite balls with him and not once did they leave his side. He carried them everywhere, I think they are a comfort to him. It's very rare to see him without a ball in his hands.
3. He always seems so much older than two to me, him and Luke are completely different. Brevy fits right in with his three year old cousins Lance and Carson, he doesn't need a stroller, highchair, crib. I keep thinking Luke still needs all of these things because I refuse to accept the fact that he is no longer a baby, but it's just not the case Brevy just acts older and more mature than most two year olds. He's such a good boy, the sweetest. Not that Luke isn't sweet, they are just very different.
4. He LOVES! babies, when he spots one he goes right on over and gets in their faces, demanding attention from them. He is the best big brother to baby Elle, perhaps a little too good right Ash?
5. He loves to torment Luke, Luke is pretty easygoing and not a lot gets him riled up, but for some reason Brevy knows just the right buttons to push with Luke. They have had some major screaming fights with one another, the most recent in the backseat of my minivan yesterday. Brevin only had to look at Luke and they were both screaming their heads off at each other, so funny.
6. He dances like no other I have ever seen, for being two years old this kid has some serious dance moves, I don't know where he learns this stuff. Oh yeah his dad is Souli, that explains it!
7. He's such a pretty boy, he really should have been a girl, it's just not fair for a little boy to be so pretty. Look at those eyes, his face, he is really just perfect, he got the best features of both his parents. I was a little worried when Ash was pregnant with Elle that she wouldn't be as pretty as Brev, luckily she was. I guess the Phongsavaths just make really pretty kids.
8. He loves me! My sister has babysat him every Tuesday since he has been born while Ash worked one day a week. I was so worried being in Kentucky and not seeing him as much that I would always be just the other aunt. Nope!! While he still loves Teri I am pleased to say he loves me just as much, or really close right Ter?
9. He's so stylish, I'm sure it helps that his mother styles hair for a living and has always looked like she should be right out of a magazine, but he really is the most stylish little kid I know. His clothes, his shoes, his hair, his bedroom, perfect, perfect, perfect! And that little Elle sorry but no other girl baby stands a chance with little Elle around!
10. He is such a sweetheart, I am so in love with being an aunt, almost as much as I love being a mother. I love these little guys, Happy 2nd birthday Brevy, your auntie Jenny loves you!

Aftermath of the Holidays

I love the holidays but I must admit I love January just as much as December. December is so hectic and busy, I feel like I can never just sit and relax. I love to deep clean my house when I am taking down the Christmas decorations and organize closets and enjoy quiet nights at home. It's so enjoyable after running around like crazy the last few months. Here is just a little of what we have been up to the last week or so since Eric has left.

Luke went back to school, he had almost a month off, which was kinda nice but it was really great to get back into the schedule of going again. I tried to do some work with him in the meantime so he wouldn't fall behind but with crazy December I really don't think I did that great of a job. But I tried I am only one person right?

My boys both love running errands and going all the time, so I have found it funny that the last few weeks it's been like torture getting them out of the house and away from their new toys. Even for short little trips to the grocery store or something, they can't wait to get back home to play.

However I think a few of us are having a hard time letting go of Christmas. Question how long do you all keep your Christmas cards up? I have taken all of my decorations down, but my cards. Does it look really stupid to keep them up into January? I have them hanging on my magnet board in my kitchen and I just really love them there. Every day I tell myself to take them down and then I say oh maybe tomorrow and up they stay. What do you all do, when do yours go down?

Christmas has come and gone, Lance loves all his new toys, tells me over and over again how much fun he had and that he just loves Santa. However he now has a brand new list for next Christmas and continues wanting to watch his favorite movie "The Santa Clause" day after day after day. How do you explain to a 3 year old that he still has 330 some odd days left until another Christmas comes around?

Perhaps my most favorite thing about January is "AMERICAN IDOL"! I love when it starts up again and seriously look forward to Tuesday and Wednesday over any other day of the week.

If at First You Don't Succeed Try, Try Again...

I took Luke the other day to Kiddy Kandids to get his 2 year old picture taken. Now some of you may remember a post I did awhile back in June about taking Lance to get his 3 year picture taken. Ever since Lance was 18 months old anytime I take him into a professional photo studio, he behaves terribly! Kicking, crying, total tantrums, you get the idea. I was hoping, beyond hoping that maybe he had grown out of this stage and for once might actually behave himself and smile on command, giving me the prize photo I want. So I dressed him up as well, (I normally only take their picture on their birthday after 2 years old, but seeing as how I hate his 3 year picture, I thought I might as well give it a try.) I told him the usual he could have ice cream, McDonald's and play with Carsy if he was a good boy and gave me a nice cute smile. He told me all morning long that he would and he was going to be a good boy. So I had my hopes up going into it, positive thinking and all.....

IT WORKED!
Lance -- 3 and half years old

Just look how darling he is, I can't even tell you how excited I am to have a nice happy smiling picture in our front room instead of my little hunchback with tears in his eyes (don't believe me just look at his picture on the side of our blog, horrible). It was an exciting day, I tell you what!
Luke -- 2 years old
And of course Luke was good, I have yet to get a bad picture of him, he always smiles and is happy and easygoing. He was actually more difficult than Lance this time, he has a bit of stranger anxiety these days, so he would never give that great big smile of his I love, but I still think this one is pretty darn cute, nonetheless.
All in all a successful trip to Kiddy Kandids, so I am good for another year, or until we get a new family picture done, whichever comes first.

Working Hard or Hardly Working?

A quiet moment of peace for me anyway, not necessarily Eric. We have been so busy the whole three weeks Eric has been there that we have maybe had 3 days of just being able to sit around and do things that normal families do, make dinner, play games, run errands and just enjoy each other's company. A few days ago for once we had nothing planned and it was the perfect kind of day, we went grocery shopping, caught up on laundry, played with all the new toys, shopped for an entertainment center for our front room. But the best part of the day was while I was making dinner, Eric requested his favorite poppy seed chicken. I was busy cooking away in the kitchen, usually Lance thinks he need to sit right on the counter to help me stir and add ingredients. Heaven forbid we leave Luke out, so he of course joins us on the counter while they proceed to drop eggs on the floor, spill bowls of sour cream and cream of chicken (not a fun combo to clean up) and fight over who gets to stir the whole mixture and flinging it on all the walls at the same time. So.... imagine my enjoyment when the boys get out their laptops to work on while Eric is working on his. I quietly went about my business, not wanting to draw attention to myself and my peaceful kitchen. Poppy seed chicken is kind of a drawn out process, usually takes me about an hour, bless these boys they bugged Eric the whole time. The poppy seed chicken was fabulous, I can't say the same for the project Eric was working on....

Milestones of a 2 year old

12/27/06 Luke the day he was born

I am a little behind on this post, a week and a half to be exact but better late than never. My sweet Luke looking back on these last two years I can't believe all that you have been through in your short life. As a mother you have a different kind of love for every child that has been placed in your home and in your heart. With Luke he is the child I admire, the one I am striving to be like. From the first moment I laid eyes on you, I have been amazed that such a little body could be carrying such a huge spirit. You have amazed me time and time again as you have fought for things that others have never had to think twice about; breathing, eating, hearing. First while I carried you, every ultra sound I would see that little heartbeat going oh so strong, never faltering even when your conditions were less than desirable. Then as a little 28 week, 2 lb 6 oz baby you overcame everything that was thrown at you, infections, open heart valves, collapsed lung. And our most recent development your hearing loss, you have come so far in such a short time. I would take all this from you if I could but I would be lying to myself if I didn't admit that I feel so honored and blessed to be the mother that was chosen for you. I am so proud of you and cherish every day that you have been a part of my life, I love you my sweet boy... may you enjoy a lifetime of happiness.

Luke at 2 years old

1. Is crazy!!! No nice way to put it this boy keeps us on our toes!
2. Loves toys he can push; shopping carts, vacuums, walkers.
3. Loves, loves, loves food any and all kinds, you name it he loves it.
4. Will not sleep anywhere but his bed, car rides yeah right.
5. Would live outside even in the snow, screams and hollers when he has to come in.
6. Hates cartoons, movies, will not watch TV to save my life.
7. Loves to brush his teeth, of course it's all about the toothpaste!
8. Can say; mommy, daddy, uh-oh, ready, hi, bye bye, Luke, granny, car, one, two, three, open, go, no, and many more that are just not coming to mind.
9. Has a great big laugh, we call it his belly laugh, when you first hear it it's shocking it's coming from a two year old.
10. Uses his arm as a pacifier, he starts sucking and he is out like a light.
11. I have yet to find a good way to discipline, he laughs at No, could care less about being put in time out. Any suggestions?
12. Is a dare devil, climbs the highest slide, dives into water, thinks he should be allowed to do whatever his little heart desires.
13. Gives such cute kisses, he won't give you one until you pucker up and say Mmmm, and then he gives you a big one.
14. Loves to torment Lance, if Lance has it he wants it.
15. climbs, climbs, climbs, I have saved him from disaster more times than I can count
16. Sings all day and sometimes all night. He woke us up last night at 4 am singing "Where is Luke", a song he learned at school.
17. Nicknames; Lou, Loubird and as of recently ya-ya, he says that sometimes referring to himself.
18. Is a daddy's boy, if Eric is around I get no attention, which sometimes is preferable. If you are seeing a pattern in his qualities it is that the boy never EVER stops, he's exhausting, but loveable!
19. Nobody cuddles better than him when he is in the mood, he tucks his little arms in and nestles right in, delightful!
20. Is just about the cutest, happiest little two year old there ever was!

We love you Luke!

If you would like to read the story of Luke's pregnancy and birth and have never done so, click here.http://smithsquad.blogspot.com/2008/04/blast-from-past-walk-down-memory-lane_11.html. Don't mind the comments I can't figure out how to copy the post only, I am not to computer savy.
