Snow Angels, Sledding and Snowmen

Yesterday we made our way down to Syracuse for my sweet little niece's 5th birthday party.

We had a wonderful time with our family. Stopped at The Pizza Factory for dinner with our kids, it was one of those nights that was just plain fun. I didn't want it to end, the kids were well behaved, my Margarita pizza was to die for, and the bread sticks......oh man I dream about those bread sticks.

Then we started the long drive home.

And ran smack dab into the middle of a snow storm. Out of my two years of living here in Cache Valley I have never and I mean never seen the canyon road this bad. Oh dear we had no idea what we were getting into when we arrived in Brigham City and started making our way up Sardine Canyon. We barely inched along above 20, we had no traction, we were sliding all over the road. And what should have been a 30 minute canyon drive, turned into a 60 minute canyon drive. The kind that had both Eric and me breathing a sigh of relief when we spotted our house and were finally able to fall into bed as the snow continued to swirl all around us outside our home.

However, this morning when we looked outside our windows.......

We knew the day had the makings for a fabulous winter wonderland.

You see only about once every season do I actually get up the energy to cram these little babies of mine into their snow gear and make a day of it weathering the weather.

But they love it so, it totally makes it worth it.

My little pink marshmallow was a little unsure of herself.....or maybe it was her brother who kept shoving snow in her lap that she was unsure of......yeah that's probably it.

Working on the makings of a snow man.

A snow man named Jake. I don't know.

Snow Angels of course.

And heck some of us tried our darnedest to dig out the swing set for a few rides on the teeter totter.......didn't really work out for him.

Little K went on her first sledding adventure, safely enclosed next to her brother.

Sadly enough she wasn't really a fan of the fluffy white stuff.

But perhaps it had more to do with the fact that the poor dear kept falling off the sled.

We lost you K.

Of course when I say I mustered up the energy to weather the weather with these babies out in the snow all day long. What I really meant was I ventured out in jeans and tennis shoes, long enough to take these pictures, cheer the boys on and then escaped inside with Katelynn. She took a nap, I finished watching Grey's Anatomy from the other night, because it's Saturday and the only day I could actually get away with watching one of my shows mid day like that. On Saturday you can cheat and do things you don't normally do. You know have two cups of hot chocolate instead of just one, take a nap if you so desire, not fold that last load of laundry just because you don't want to. Tell me isn't that how you roll on Saturday's too?

No what I really meant to say is Eric is the one who really weathered the weather, he stayed out for almost three hours with those two.

"Wait guys I take it back, that does look like fun, let me at it."

Sorry little sweetheart, we are not going back outside we were left in charge of the returning hot chocolate and that task takes the both of us little dear.

At one point I lost track of the boys and finally located them on the dirt hills behind our house. It's the construction site of our church being built behind us, apparently the mounds of dirt everywhere made great little sledding hills if you are 4 and 5 years old.

Hope you are all having a safe and warm winter weekend!

Until next year little snowman, once a year is plenty for me looking at your mug!

In My Kitchen:

I have a favorite room in my house......do you?

Mine is my kitchen. I love all the windows, I love the lighting, I love the wood floors, I love the splashes of red everywhere, I love preparing meals for my family,......but as of late there is one little thing that has been bothering me. Actually it's a very big thing, that I have done quite a bit of complaining about.

My dishwasher.......or what I thought was my dishwashers problem. You see my dishes have been suffering as of late. For the last year or so, it seems right around the time we bought our house I have watched as my pots and pans, glasses, plates, utensils and all other kitchen gadgets have been developing a white film over everything.

I have been in turmoil about it. I have complained to my mom, who thought maybe it was the dish detergent I was using. So I switched brands, even to the the expensive ones with no avail.....filmy white dishes. So then maybe I wondered if putting in a water softener would help. We played around with the numbers and to install a water softener would be a few thousand. After putting the pump in our crawlspace a few weeks ago, I was not willing to hand over any more money for water issues.

As much as I wanted my Fiesta Ware, I told Eric to not get it for me until we either had a better dishwasher or put in a water softener because I did not want my little beauties destroyed with filmy gunk.

One day my dear mother called me up, she had heard on the news a story about people complaining about the nasty film all over their dishes and how it has gotten steadily worse over the last few months. Well I was intrigued this was my very issue......

Apparently a while ago the dish detergent people decided to take out phosphate from dish detergent because it was bad for the environment. Well that is all fine and dandy but what about the nasty film now being left on dishes. The responses from the viewers all said the same thing Lemi Shine was the answer. Lemi Shine I had never heard of it, but the way folks were talking about it, had me calling Eric right away requesting that he find me some to use that very evening.

Well the little dear came through for me that night he came home with a precious 12 oz bottle of Lemi Shine. I say precious because at $8.00 a bottle for only 18 uses, that's a little pricey. But after 3 consecutive uses in my dishwasher along with any old dish soap my dishes are like brand new. BRAND NEW!! I am sold, I wish I had a picture of before to show you the amazing transformation, it is seriously amazing stuff. The film is gone, my dishes sparkle and I am no longer embarrassed to let someone have a drink from a glass of mine. I found myself constantly saying "it's clean I promise".

I may have gotten a little carried away......my cabinet under the sink is crammed to capacity with bottles of Lemi Shine. Now that I have found this little gem I am hoarding it all for myself. I have heard that Walmart carries it, but so far I have yet to find it there. Smith's Market Place is carrying them, that I know for sure.

And my Fiesta Ware has never looked more lovely:

So the purpose behind this post -- I had to share my most favorite product right now with all of you. If you have hard water stains on your dishes run......run to the nearest Smith's and buy out their stock of Lemi Shine. Just stay clear from my Cache Valley Smith's Market Place because I am calling dibs on it!

Sleepover

It was a big weekend for two little boys.

Lance and Carson have been just dying for another cousin sleepover together, this time it would be at Lancey's house, because duh -- last time it was at Carson's, so I was told.

A few weeks back they approached Teri and I with the idea of planning a sleepover. I told them we would have to wait for a Sunday that we had dinner at Grandma Tereasa's and a Monday that Lance did not have school. Well wouldn't you know that weekend was just three weeks away, over Presidents Day. Both little boys have been counting down the days on their calendars and I have to throw this little story in because it made me laugh so much. Carson asked Teri last week when the sleepover was. Teri told him it was still a week away to which Carson responded "if I find out you two just forgot about our sleepover, we are going to be so mad". Love you little Cars, your best auntie would never forget you little buddy. I have been secretly counting down the days on my calendar too!

Lance took his job as host very seriously. Their current obsession is Chuggington on Disney Channel. Lance's current obsession is drawing pictures of Chuggers, cutting them out and taping them up all over the house. You like the looks of these? Well there are 200 more where they came from, I have Chuggers on the fridge, on the car dash, closet doors, even under my pillow. Just let me know if there is a shortage in your house, and these little Chuggers are appealing to you, there is plenty more where they came from.

If I don't run out of tape first.....we have been through three rolls in three weeks. I should tell him no more tape but I can't stand the idea of stomping his creativity right out of him, it's too cute!

Nothing to do with the weekend guest......but the little miss just wanted to show you her new past time. Rocking horses are her thing......nice form baby girl, way to hold that head high! Her dismount is pretty spectacular too, she's a pro.

Back to the main event Sunday night we had dinner with my family at my moms house, we do that about once a month. It's chaotic, but fun. Then we packed up the excited little boys and headed home.

They came home watched 3 Chuggington's, admired Lance's paper Chuggers, made a map of which Chuggers they would be buying next. They got their PJ's on, bossed Luke around some, doted on Katelynn and then it was off to bed for their adventures the next day. The night went pretty well there was a lot of coming into my room saying things like "Luke is breathing too loudly, Luke won't stop singing, Luke keeps turning on the light, Luke looked at Carson, Luke looked at Lance, Luke looked at Mickey Mouse", you get the idea....... Poor Luke I think he was kinda happy to see Carson go after all of the trash talk he took.

Don't mind this picture. Carsy looks cute, Lance was having a moment. Would you like to know what about? I asked him to go get some socks up in his room. He told me no. I went and got them myself. He sobbed for thirty minutes because he did in fact want to go get his socks. He did not want to wear white socks that I had picked out. He did not want to go out to breakfast. And he would not come out to the car because "I don't want Carson to see me like this". Hmm......I love little tantrums especially when they are all based around a pair of socks.

Anywho we went to Village Inn for breakfast the boys all had silly face pancakes. Katelynn had a table of a dozen elderly folk completely enamored. Her toes were tickled repeatedly by an older gentleman. The ladies exclaimed things like "oh my goodness three little boys and you finally got your little girl, if that's not darling". Eric and I just smiled at each other and pretended it was true -- we did have three little boys and then a little girl -- and it was precious. Sometimes it's just easier to pretend you know.....

We came home where the boys played movie theater. Popcorn, Dots and Kit Kats, that is all I need at the movies too.......well that and a large coke, and a movie that doesn't involve any singing animals. But luckily I wasn't the one playing movie theater.

We played restaurant, they were the servers........Katelynn and Luke were the patrons.

And amazingly enough everybody was happy with their given roles. Miracles in the tiniest form if you ask me. Especially considering the giant fit earlier involving socks.

Sadly enough we had to end shortly after that and take Carson back home. I asked Lance if he had a fun time at his sleepover with his best buddy. He told me "yeah it was fun, just pretty short, next time you and Teri need to make it longer, we didn't even have time to play with our Chuggers". Heartbreaking......I know.

Carsy boy thanks for coming over little buddy, we loved having you!

Eric + Jenny Part 2

As promised......

Read Part 1, if you have yet to do so here.

Then proceed on, with my enthralling conclusion of our love story.

Bliss

Seven months passed. I saw him every day. We rode to school together, had lunch together, dates every weekend, evenings spent on the couch. (And yes we behaved ourselves on that couch, we were perfectly chaperoned, thank you very much. I know what you are thinking.......not that there wasn't a kiss or two or twenty.) And of course we spent Sunday evenings at my aunt and uncles house, just as we had always done. He made me happy, oh so happy. It felt magical, I felt alive, happy and loved. I don't think we ever really talked of marriage or the future, but in both our minds it was there on the horizon. Just waiting for that perfect time to approach it, to test the waters of a lifetime together.

Life Lessons

Did I mention I was 18, did I mention he was 21? Well we were, and as much as I would love to claim I had all the answers at 18, I didn't..... I so didn't. And he probably will tell you he had all the answers at 21, cause yeah did I mention he's stubborn. But trust me, he didn't have all the answers either. Suddenly we forgot what it meant to pick your battles, suddenly we forgot what it means to love unconditionally, suddenly imperfections began to bug us. Or more we didn't really forget, we just had yet to learn those valuable lessons in love just yet. We began to nit pick each other, we no longer found humor in white eyeshadow, clunky shoes and poofed up hair, things were just not fun anymore. Things were moving too fast and as much as I wanted to claim I wanted marriage by June, in my heart I knew I was not ready. Life had yet to teach me all it needed to teach me in order to make the most momentous decision of my life, and the same could definitely be said for him.

The Break- Up

So the inevitable happened we called it quits or a break. We needed time, time to figure out what we wanted, time apart. And I admit I was a little furious about it, how dare he get my hopes up like that? How dare he let me gush to all of my girlfriends about him. How dare he set white dresses, reception halls, and daisy's into motion for me? Doesn't he know little girls have been planning their weddings since they were just that -- little girls. Surely he realized how devastating this would be for me, to have planned out my whole wedding with him as my groom, only to call it quits a few months later. Yes I would be holding a grudge for this one, if he wanted to win me back there is no way I was going to make it easy on him. I was so mature for my age, don't you think so?

We went our separate ways,............ for all of two weeks, until he realized I was pretty much perfect, (I'm kidding, don't think I am serious about that, I don't think I am perfect, in fact far from. But I do like sarcasm, in case you have not noticed that about me. Sarcasm and me we get along splendidly.)

Me? I stood firm in my decision, I kindly told him to back off and leave me alone every time he called. I told him he was sweet, but it just wasn't going to work out, we were too different.

He was every girls dream. He wrote me love letters. He bought me roses. He took my mom to lunch and picked her brain apart trying to come up with ways on how to win me back. He composed songs on the piano for me. He called my sisters love sick, and desperate for help. He stopped by my work just to tell me I looked beautiful. He wrote me songs and played them on his guitar.

And I behaved like none of it mattered. Though I regret making it so hard on him, I did have my reasons, that are a little too personal for this little blog of mine, but I wasn't totally heartless, I promise. At the time I felt we had broken up for a reason and it would be a mistake to think we could make a marriage work when we couldn't even make dating work.

Devotion

After a few weeks of this my mom could see the torment I was in. I hated hurting his feelings like this, I wanted him to stop, give it up already. It just wasn't going to work out. She told him if he ever wanted me back, he had to back off a bit. Give me time to realize he was all I had ever wanted in life. Give me time to realize he was right, we were made for each other. Give me time to grow up a bit and maybe then it would be me trying to win him back.

So he backed off, and from what I have been told it was awful for him. Looking back I want to cry with tears of gratitude that he never gave up on me. He fought like crazy for me. And though I hate what I put him through, I love that I am loved that much. Eric's dad has always said it best "I had no idea a 100 pound little girl, could drop big, stubborn, proud Eric to his knees, over and over again".

Change of Heart

It was late August of 2002 by now. We had been broken up for four months, it was a lonely summer for me. I dated some, he dated some. None of it mattered, none of those so called dates were fun. I found myself just going through the motions, getting dressed up, going out, small talk and wishing I could just go home. I have never loved the dating game, I was really never good at it.

A Thursday night in August he called me up out of the blue. I hadn't spoken to him in over two months. Little did I know this was it, he had made the decision to ask me out one last time. Just one more time and if it didn't work out he was going to let it go forever. Let me go forever. So he asked me out for Saturday.

I told him no, that I had already made a date for Saturday but if he really wanted to I would go out with him the following weekend. My thoughts -- I was going to lay it out point blank for him on that date. We were not meant to be together, he was making himself miserable with all of this heartache, he was making me miserable having to continually tell him no all the time. It needed to stop and I was going to make sure he knew that. One last date for old times sake and then we could both move on.

The week passed I thought of the date with dread, knowing I would have to hurt someone I cared a great deal about. Not one ounce of me was excited. We would be going out on Saturday, the Thursday before, I woke up to start my day with a lump in my throat. I couldn't get him out of my mind, I pulled out each and every love letter he had ever written me. I read them through over and over again for hours. My heart slowly began to soften, I cried lots. I brought Teri in, made her read each and every letter with me. We cried together, she told me I was a fool if I let him go. She told me the letters were beautiful, his love was real, he would take care of me for the rest of my life. And she would never forgive me if I let him slip away, because of my foolish pride.

She was right, and my heart was spinning. To go from one day ready to tell him goodbye, to the next wanting to throw myself into his arms and beg for forgiveness, I had no idea what to do with myself. What would I say to him? I had been so cool and so cold and so, really no other word for it, but heartless. How could I possibly think I deserved such a person?

So I did the only thing I could think of I prayed and prayed and then I called him up. Gone was the coldness from my voice, gone was my insecurities, gone was the confusion. His voice was just as I knew it would be warm, kind, loving and shocked. I could hear in his voice he was beyond confused at my apparent 180. We talked of the next night, I told him I was excited to see him, excited to be with him. He was sweet and kind but I could tell his mind was reeling from the obvious change in my attitude.

The Proposal

Saturday September 7, 2002.

He picked me up in that Sentra, he wore a new black sweater, new jeans, and his Seiko watch I had given him for the previous Christmas. I knew it was all new, because I know his clothes, like the back of my hand. I know his mind, he would have wanted to look nice -- therefore new clothes. But he wanted me to know I was cherished -- therefore he wore my watch I gave him as a token of what I meant to him. It was like fitting right back into a previous life, a good life, a life I was oh so comfortable in, a life that was meant just for me. His hand felt safe, his embrace felt warm, his eyes were like looking into my own soul. My prayers were being answered, I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt, this man would be my husband. My partner in life, the father of my children, my eternal companion, and I cried right then and there.

We went to McGrath's Fish House, I had the halibut platter, and a coke of course. He had wood fired salmon and a lemonade. We held hands, we talked of everything, his eyes sparkled, the magic was there. We talked of our mistakes, our immaturity, we talked of our dreams, our goals. We were finally testing those waters of a lifetime together, and it felt good, it felt right, and most importantly to us we knew we were being guided by a loving father in heaven, who was oh so pleased.

We left the restaurant and he took me to where it all began......the home of my aunt and uncle.

They were gone for the evening but had agreed to let him use their home. Rose petals were strewn about, and a lone guitar stood in the corner. He played me song after song. We kissed some in front of a roaring fire, we set a date for our upcoming wedding -- January 23, 2003. We stayed for a long time in front of that fire, my best friend and I finally reaching that monumental time in your life when you know your destiny is right there beside you.

One week later, a ring in his pocket he took me to the grounds of the Bountiful Temple and asked me to marry him for time and all eternity. It amazed me then and it amazes me now when the time is right the time is right. The stars aligned, my heart was open and receptive, my most perfect man was placed before me in a way that I could not deny the greatest gift my father in heaven has ever given me. A man to love me, to take care of me, to adore me, and to be given the gift to do the same for the love of my life.

On January 23, 2003 we were married in the Bountiful temple on a beautiful winter day.

Us Now

8 years of marriage. 15 years of being in each others life, and here we are today. I think he's too judgemental, he thinks I have a bad temper. I think he expects too much of himself, he wishes I wasn't so anal. He hates watching movies, I hate playing games. I get bugged when he can never seem to shut a drawer, he gets bugged when I throw his crap away. He thinks I spend too much money at Target, I cringe when I know he is going to Costco. I get annoyed when he leaves all of his crap out and I HAVE to throw it away. He gets annoyed when I put the milk away before he's done. He brings me home cartons of ice cream when he knows I have had a bad day. I get the kids in the bathtub and to bed when I know he has a big game on. He humors me by saying the sheets smell nice when he knows it was cleaning day. I humor him by pretending to care when the Jazz score a point. He "loves"my ratty Smith and Edward Tshirt I wear to bed, I "love" his stupid purple shorts. I melt when he wears tie, he loves me in my skinny jeans. We talk to each other at least three or four times a day, just to say "hi, how is your day". We would both move heaven and earth for our children. We pride each other on always meeting in the middle on big decisions. Neither of us wears the pants in the family, we value what the other has to say. There is nobody in this world who's opinion I crave more than his. I am first person he asks for advice from when a dilemma arises. I love what a hard worker he is. He loves that I have always put motherhood first and foremost in my life. He is extremely protective of me, I am fiercely loyal to him.

We are different, we each have weaknesses, we each have strengths. We never go to bed angry, we kiss each other every day. We work hard to keep the romance alive. He is my best friend, the father of my children and the love of my life.

And for the record he was right......white eyeshadow is pukey. Poofy hair I no longer have time for, but drop dead if you think I am ever giving up my clunky shoes!

Love you my dear, you make me so happy........

Valentines Day

Well I had intentions of finishing up part 2 of our Love Story over Valentines weekend. Cause really when would there be a more fitting time to reminisce and put into words our story than over Valentines weekend? And you have all waited so patiently for part 2, I know you have been unable to think of little else other than my white eyeshadow, clunky shoes and poofed up hair.

Unfortunately life had other plans.......

Like this girl with an ear infection....and the fact that she has pretty much made a home permanently attached to my leg over the last few days.

Like stomach flu and colds from you know where......

And the icing on the cake a sinus infection that has me wanting to rip my face off, for real. I had no idea a sinus infection could be the worse pain I have ever felt. My jaw hurts, my cheekbones hurt, my nose hurts, heck even my teeth hurt. So until all of that fun clears up, I don't have it in me to spend two hours on the computer reliving romantic memories. Because staring at a computer for that long would make me want to rip my eyes out, along with the rest of my face.........and I need my eyes and my face. So we can't have that, but I promise it's coming......SOON.

So Valentines weekend.......

Eric and I celebrated on Saturday, well we sorta celebrated on Saturday. He has to work until after 10 on Monday nights, so we knew Monday was out of the question. Therefor if a day of love was going to be celebrated it had to be moved up a few days.

These lovelies were my gift. Fiesta Ware it's every bit as heavenly as I had imagined it to be. I just need to put it away, it's been sitting on my kitchen table since Saturday. Every time I go to find a home for them, I get sad and want to admire them some more, so there they sit. Every time I walk by I smile with pleasure at their lovely colors.....Ivory, Chocolate, Shamrock, Scarlett, and blue (I can't quite recall the name of the blue, so for now it's just blue.)

Not to mention it made for the happiest load of dishes I have ever unloaded from my dishwasher. I hate unloading the dishwasher, hate it...... but now I might actually learn to love it or tolerate it at the very best. Love might be a little strong.

Eric's gift has yet to come I ordered him a soccer jersey from England. A soccer jersey. If you know me you know I hate jerseys, I don't like them at all. Nothing infuriates me more than on a Saturday morning when I see Eric pulling on a jersey in order to cheer a favorite team on. I tend to think it's more of a I hate that fact that the next three hours will be spent with him hollering in front of a game, waking up babies, only listening to a 1/4 of what I say, and riling the boys all up kind of thing, rather than a hating the jersey kind of thing. But still not a fan of the jersey. So my point -- it was so nice of me to order him yet another silly jersey, cause you know I don't like them. But I do like my Valentine, so I guess I can take one for the team.

We got takeout for dinner, put the kids to bed and watched a movie together.

A movie together --- that never happens. My husband hates movies about as much as I hate jerseys. Now granted we didn't watch "You've Got Mail", "Pretty Woman" or "While You Were Sleeping", those would have been my top choices. NO. We watched "Invictus", which has no love story whatsoever in it, but it was a movie, and we watched it together.

Baby Steps. Maybe next year we can watch "Napoleon Dynamite", by 2040 we should definitely be ready for "You've Got Mail".

Monday the boys both had their class parties, a kids dream. I loved collecting all of those lovely Valentines as a kid, spending hours upon hours interpreting what "You are Sweet" meant from my current 2nd grade love interest, surely it meant he liked me too.

When Lance got home from Kindergarten he was too impatient to wait until 3 pm when Luke gets home to open his Valentine. So I let him and Katelynn have at it, Luke wouldn't care. Don't mind the baby in the diaper. She had been dressed for a total of five minutes before successfully scouting out an unopened chocolate on the floor and making a royal mess with it, in under 30 seconds. Bad news she spent the majority of her day in a diaper, good news I salvaged the outfit.

He was just a little excited......

She was just a little perplexed.......

We picked up Lukey from school, who as usual refused to be in any pictures. That kid he is giving his camera loving mother an ulcer.....WHY WON'T HE JUST SMILE! Lucky me Lance is always willing to be a good sport about pictures. We made our way up to our favorite little Granny to stop in with a Valentine surprise.......

This little Granny sure is special, wouldn't be right to not spend a few hours with her on this special day.

To which she surprised the boys with the greatest gift ever........

A trip to McDonald's.

(Oh hi Loubird, you are in our family after all. We just havn't seen you around these parts in a while, that's all.)

We thought about going somewhere more fun for the ladies for dinner, but did I mention I have the worst sinus infection ever which has drastically altered my taste buds. Like I can't tell the difference between an onion and apple. So heck might as well makes those boys happy with some Ronald McDonald, because I sure as heck won't be tasting my food.

And that's that.....my night ended with Eric coming home finding me curled up on our bed, crying my eyes out about the fact that it felt like my face was falling off. He tucked me in, gave me some Advil, brought me some ice water, warmed up my rice bag, and called it a night.

I love my Valentine, sorry honey......next year my face won't be falling off........promise. I will make it up to you.

Hope you all had a lovely weekend!
