Little Beauty

My little sister is finishing her basement this week, as some of you may know she is a hair dresser, and is putting in her dream of a salon in her basement. She is completely finished and is now working on the finishing touches before her big opening on Tuesday. She had an idea to take pictures of her little girls hair and frame them big on the walls in her salon. So yesterday we had a mini photo shoot with little Elle Belle. So while I should being taking advantage of my little boys avidly watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Eric on the treadmill, yet here I sit with my lemonade and jelly beans editing pictures and I just can't help myself this little beauty just speaks for herself. I mean seriously look at this girl......

These are not really the pictures being featured in her salon, they will be more geared towards her hair and not her beautiful face. But I couldn't help myself I just kept snapping the camera how can I not be completely enamored by my little niece. She is a beauty Ash.....I love you Elle's Bells!

(I have a certain fear that Katelynn will not be able to compete with her beautiful cousin, I am just hoping she has some beautiful features of her own, but come on of course she will she has me as a mother!)

Online Fun

I have discovered the joy of shopping online, normally that is not something I like to do. I like to shop in person so I can actually see what I am buying. But living in Logan limits my shopping time they really don't have all of my favorite stores here and it's not often I can make it to Salt Lake or the Layton area to do any shopping. So.....online it is, not to mention it is much easier not having to drag two little boys everywhere while I browse through stores. This way I can analyze, go clean a bathroom, analyze some more and then come back with a sound decision. Or at least that's what I tell myself I try to be a good girl and not buy something on a whim just because it's so darn easy whipping that visa out.

I bought this just this morning Becky Higgins Project Life. Have you heard of this genius idea? Last year I did her Project 365, it has been the best thing I have ever done as far as scrapbooking goes. Why? Because it is so doable! A picture a day, print them out and plop them into her premade kit. You are done! Well this year she has made it even easier. I know some people struggle with a picture a day, I myself find it very easy, I usually am limiting it down, I have too many pictures to choose from. But this new kit is geared towards a picture a day or a themed layout. Such as a birthday party or first day of school, whatever you want, random pictures, the sky is the limit. If you are looking for a cheap easy way to keep caught up on scrapbooking I highly recommend this idea. It's genius really! But hurry I just read on her blog today that the kits are limited with how many are left, so buy now if you are interested. It's cleaning day today for me, this is where my cleaning bathrooms and analyzing ideas come from. I am debating these cute little shoes from Etsy Gracious May. Are they not darling! I have the perfect outfit for Katelynn to go with these shoes. But at $32.00 I just can't bring myself to hit the complete payment button. Worth it? I don't know, they are so cute but for baby shoes they will grow out of the day after they wear them, I just can't decide. It would be a luxury that's for sure, but aren't I allowed a few of those every now and then?
What do you say worth it for $32.00 or save my money for something more practical?

I guess I will go scrub a toilet maybe it will clear my head.

Weekend Peek

A few things to sum up a quiet weekend:

--am I the only weirdo mom who takes about a bazillion pictures of their baby boy going to his very first friend birthday party. Eric thought I was insane snapping my camera as Lance walked down the driveway carrying his brightly wrapped gift for his buddy.

--on a sidenote Lance gave his friend "The King" from "Cars" the movie and somehow wound up coming home with the box The King was packaged in. Does my child really go asking for the packaging of a gift he gave--funny duck he is. Sorry about that Lisa!

--Sunday mornings are made up of Eric dragging out the train set for the boys and putting it together piece by piece for them, they love it during the week mommy always tells them no way!

--I think it is apparent we need another girl around here. I find toy cars in the most random places--hanging on my organizer on the side of the fridge? Which little boy stuck it there, what was the purpose, but most importantly I love finding their little treasures. I like seeing "proof" that there are baby boys living under our roof!

It's the Little Things....

I haven't done a little things post since November and there is just too many little things right now that are making me happy, it's time for another....

--the sun I can't get over how happy that bright sun shining every day is making me. Even though it still quite cold, between the sun and my constantly hot state of pregnancy I am in, it feels like Spring to me! Now if only the snow would go away......it's hard to pretend it's Spring when the snow keeps getting in the way.
--I missed a week of cleaning last week with all of the Valentine parties going on. This makes me happy because I had a major mood swing with my house on Monday and spent the whole day cleaning and scrubbing. I usually save my cleaning for weekends, I feel so free now knowing I have the whole weekend to not spend on my hand and knees scrubbing the kitchen floor.
--the Olympics, the only time when Eric and I can actually agree on what to watch at night after the kids are in bed, this rarely happens any other time. He doesn't find the same joy in The Bachelor as I do, go figure?
--lunch with my mom to Rainbow Gardens, boy do I love those Mormon Muffins
--Lance has an ear infection. After taking him to Instacare one night while he was screaming in pain, he got to pick out a prize for being such a brave boy at the doctor. His choice "Electro", which he informed Eric is "the best present I have ever got I just love this". He is easy to please.
--a good visit at Luke's 3 year well child checkup, he is 25% for height and 50% for weight
--2 well behaved boys for Luke's well child checkup
--a trip for ice cream cones for 2 well behaved boys at Luke's well child checkup
--2 freshly baked loaves of banana bread
--our new Toy Story game we have played over and over and over again. Lance has his own version of playing we decide before the game even begins who the winner will be. I tell you what I have to work like a dog insuring that the "chosen person" wins the game. It's not easy controlling that dice as to how many moves you get to make for your turn. I am sure the makers had no idea just how complicated of a game a four year old could turn this into.
--new fluffy white socks, I love new fluffy white socks
--new Wallflowers, I love new Wallflowers. The scent I chose for my kitchen is Caribbean Salsa, it has sort of a citrus smell. So even when my kitchen is not at it's finest I can fake it with the smell of fresh lemons and pineapple, everyone will think I am the cleanest person ever!
--listening to Lance's exchange with Potato Head this morning, it went something like this
potato head: "Lancey can I come with you to McDonald's with Granny today"
Lance: "sure potato head, I will put you in my bag"
potato head: "thanks Lancey, I really want a move it (Madagascar) penguin", (the prize in the kids meals these days)
Lance: "your welcome potato head, we have to be careful if you go down the slide your hat might fall off, better pack you an extra"
potato head: "thanks Lancey I love my hat"
--I love the fact that Lance refers to himself as Lancey
--crepes with cherries and whip cream for dinner tonight
--It's Friday, the weekend!

Happy Friday everybody!

Dear future, tired, hormonal self.....

I am at that point in pregnancy.....

....the point where you are so beyond uncomfortable you can't imagine ever being comfortable again.

....the point where you and your husband have a good laugh in the bathroom one night while washing your faces that your big loose pajama shirt no longer fits over your huge stomach, sure enough there is that belly poking it's way out.

....most importantly the point in pregnancy when you lay awake at night searching in vain for that comfy spot on your left side that surely must be there, but somehow you have missed it during all three of your pregnancies. Back sleeping oh how I miss you!

So what do I do during these times of sleeplessness? Well first I go check on my sleeping children, like any mother does at three in the morning. Sometimes I sit beside their beds and imagine what our lives will be like in just 8 short weeks. I imagine the good and the not so good that comes with a newborn in the house.

Don't misinterpret what I am about to say here I love newborns there is something about that sweet cuddly stage that is wonderful. But sometimes it is so much easier to appreciate when that newborn is not yours, and you are not feeling so tired, frumpy and hormonal all the time.

I think back to my two previous newborn stages and while it is so wonderful having that sweet little infant in your arms, there is a lot of hard nights and tired days ahead of you at the same time. I thought writing this down now before the little miss arrives will help me at those 3 am feedings when little eyes are wide awake looking like they are ready to play the night away.

SO.....DEAR SELF,

1. This phase shall too pass. Just like Lance's phase of Toy Story love, Luke's phase of pulling his diaper off, the phase of hating cheese, of calling sippy "pippy", of only wearing croc shoes, of hating Sunbeams and being terrified to go. All of these phases have come and gone and just as surely as 3 am feedings are coming they will also be gone before I know it. One night that infant will sleep straight through and I will miss those tiny eyes searching mine alone in the night.

2. The only thing worse than pregnancy baby weight is post pregnancy baby weight. You look at your tiny newborn looking so cute and sweet and then look in the mirror at their mother and think what in the world, you are so not attractive right now. The only thing that fits is your maternity clothing, wet shower hair is the best you can hope for, makeup if you are lucky and cute magazines just keep popping up in the mail reminding you of how much you would love your old size back with a new shirt to feel good about yourself. It will come a few things to remember at this time:

a. Treadmill, make it your new best friend, you have a very willing husband who loves to help with the children. Set a time for yourself daily and don't let yourself off the hook. You will feel so much better about life, more energy, more happiness, get to work!

b. Put that cookie down, you don't need it. Mindless munching is not at all helpful, sure that cookie is good for that second but later on you will just feel sorry that you did so poorly that day. Eat an apple!

c. You have a cute newborn if nothing else she will make up for your not so good looking self at the moment. Really who will be looking at you, most friends and family will just be oohing and aahing over that cute little girl, and not caring if you have 20 pounds still too lose.

3. Your days and nights will not always feel like one big never ending endless frame of time. 8:00 pm will roll around someday and be yours again to do with what you please. One day you will feel like a whole person again and and not some walking zombie.

4. And this one might just be the most important be nice to your husband. It's not Eric's fault you feel like an upside down version of yourself. Be nice to him even when that sweet girl wakes up for the third time in one night and he not so gently gives you shove to roll yourself out of bed yet again to go feed her, after all what can he do you are nursing. Remind yourself how quick he is to take that infant and hold them for hours on end when they have their days and nights confused. Remind yourself how willing he is to wake up with the boys to make them their waffles. Remind yourself you need him to take Lance and quite possbily Luke as well to school in the morning. So when he gently shoves you give him a kiss and get on out of that bed (okay even I admit that kiss might be a little far fetched). Better yet just don't sock him one.

5. Remember how long you have dreamed of this moment a full term pregnancy with the joy of bringing a baby straight home from the hospital. The way that cute little baby pulls up their little legs and throws out those arms in a morning stretch. The rooting mouth in the middle of the night just searching for that nourishment only you as their mother can provide. The love in your heart the moment that little one is placed in your arms. The joy of watching your older children interact, love and bring someone new into their lives. Remember a year or two from now that ache will hit again of holding that little newborn in your arms, and you will wonder where in the world the time went and how these babies all of a sudden are no longer babies.

Happy Valentines Day

3 years ago Eric came home from a morning at law school and an afternoon with Luke in the NICU, stopping for a gallon of milk at Kroger and threw a box a chocolate covered strawberries at me saying "Oh yeah while I was getting the milk I remembered it was Valentines Day, here Happy Valentines Day". That was a rough year we didn't celebrate any holidays between Halloween and Easter all we did was basically worry about a little Loubird. But since that day chocolate covered strawberries have always been a joke to us, at the totally unromantic afterthought Eric gave them on Valentines that year. Though I was no better I think I maybe? maybe made cupcakes, can't remember we had too much else on our minds. We both really do love them and wouldn't you know this year we had a double batch of them I made Eric two cartons full of them not knowing he was planning on making me another carton full. 24 hours later we have eaten every single one of those strawberries......DELECIOUS...we will make them a tradition each Valentines, though we still always have a laugh at their role in our lives.

We had approximately ten minutes to change out of our church clothes, give our Valentines to each other and make it to my mom's house for dinner on Sunday. Even then we arrived a half an hour late completely missing dinner, we ate alone. It was worth it, you have to have a few pictures of Valentines Day.

I didn't get a very good picture but you can kind of make out my gift from Eric the new necklace and bracelet I am wearing in these pictures. Have I mentioned how great he is at keeping me well accessorized, he knows that is about the only article of clothing that brings me joy these days. Let's face it getting a tent sized shirt just reminds you that you are an elephant . Thank goodness for accessories!

Eric was around this day I am not sure why he is not featured in any of the pictures, he got home made Valentines from the boys and a renewal for his ESPN magazine from me. I don't even pretend I am as good at gift giving as Eric is he beats me every time, but I try I really do!

The boys got Toy Story color forms, this was a gift that will really benefit Eric and I we needed some new quiet toys to put in the church bag. Our quiet activity bag was getting a little pathetic, we needed to spice it up a bit.

We ended the day with dinner at my moms and fun times with the cousins. I really enjoyed Valentines falling on a Sunday this year there was no pressure to go out and spend money. Just a quiet day spent with all of those you love, it was perfect!
Happy Valentines Day!

Valentine Fun

My suspicions were correct Lance did in fact come down with whatever Luke had, and Luke is taking forever and a year to get over his cold. So........both boys have been at home this week with me while I have been trying desperately to come up with ways to entertain them. Thank goodness we have had many Valentine projects to keep busy with. And I am hoping to send Lance to school for his party tomorrow and Luke on Friday for his party, at least they are getting better for the big events at the end of the week.

The weather has been tricking us this week or should I say the sun. It's still terribly cold but boy that sun has been shining full blast on us. It is making me feel awfully spring like and making me crave my favorite drink from Sonic their Cherry Lime Ade's. The boys and I have traveled daily to Sonic just for an excuse to get out of the house and get us a drink at happy hour, I love happy hour at Sonic half off drinks.

We made a quick trip to Walmart to collect on Valentine paraphernalia for our projects this week. I liked Walmart's holiday selection this year but every time I go I think to myself why oh why can't Cache Valley have a Target. I hate missing my favorite store all the time, I just don't get down south as often as I would like to browse Target.

I paid $1.50 for these cute heart shaped bowls, 4 of them for $6.00 that is a cheap way to feel festive I would say. Don't they just make a snack of goldfish cuter, I think so!

We went hard to work on preparing our Valentines for the boys class party. I love their looks of concentration. It is such excruciating work deciding which of your buddies gets which Valentine. Don't you remember doing that as a kid spending hours thinking of which Valentine would be the perfect one to give to the boy you liked. I just love Valentines Day!

(Don't mind the dark picture I only had my point and shoot on hand, it's just not the same anymore, my Olympus has me spoiled now.)

This was the best Valentine surprise yet......the doorbell rang this afternoon. The boys made a dive to the window as usual to see who it was. They were thrilled to find two Valentines just for them at the door from a secret admirer. I wish you could see how cute they were, but the boys scarfed them down before I could get a decent picture. It was sugar cookie lollipops, absolutely darling and we have a sinking suspicion it was Grandma Tereasa. Lance is pretty sure he saw her car driving away, but we will never know.......

Oh and for those of you who wanted the recipe for the eclair squares here it is sorry I should have put it on it the first place, but I was tired and that is my only excuse...

Eclair Squares
1/2 cup butter
1 c water
1 c flour
4 eggs
3 oz cream cheese
1 large instant vanilla pudding mix
1 & 1/2 c milk
8 oz cool whip
chocolate syrup and sliced strawberries for garnish

crust: boil butter and water remove from heat add flour and eggs one at a time beating well in between each egg. Pour into a greased 9x13 baking dish. Bake at 400for 25 minutes and let cool completely.

Filling: Beat together cream cheese, pudding and milk. Combine until thick and then fold in cool whip. Spread onto crust and refridgerate for a few hours until firm. Garnish with chocolate syrup and strawberries!

Pepsi = Short

Quotable Quote from Lance

Eric has a thing against caffeniated drinks, he hates my habit of drinking Pepsi, Coke you name it. I secretly think he finds it really endearing and loves that about me. I wouldn't be me without my coke in hand, he just likes to give me and everyone else who drinks it a hard time. That's what I think anyway, he may or may not agree.

He also frequently tells Lance that if he drinks Coke or Pepsi he will grow up to be short like his mother, (referring to me of course).

That is the setup, here is the story:

Lance: "Daddy, Alvin and Simon are tall like you and me".

Eric: "Yup they are tall".

Lance: "Theodore is short, he must drink Pepsi like mommy."

The sad thing is he really believes this theory, you would never find Lance with a coke in hand, he wants to be tall like Eric. Not to mention my husband would toss me out the window if I ever gave the boys a sip of coke. The thought of being short and being tossed out the window keep both Lance and I in line!

This Week

This week we met our new little nephew Jacob Ryan Smith, he is the firstborn of Eric's brother Ryan and his wife Megan. He was born on Jan 27th, little stinker should have held out one more day and we could have shared a birthday with each other. He was as cute as he looks, I told Megan it's a darn good thing I am having one of these myself here soon or I would have just kidnapped this one all for my own, little cuddle bug he was darling, congratulations you guys! We also found out Eric's other brother Spencer and his wife Gaby are expecting their 3rd in July. That will be three new babies in 2010 for the Smith side of our family, come on Matt and Brooke let's make it four!

This week Lance got invited to a friends birthday party in a few weeks. Funny boy my friend must have dropped it off while I was blow drying my hair one morning because I didn't hear a thing but Lance comes up to the bathroom and says "mommy what's that red paper on the door with my name on it, it says Lance". I couldn't figure out what he was talking about so I followed him downstairs sure enough stuck to the front door was a red envelope with his name on it. Little chicken must have opened the door without me to investigate the card and saw his name on it, why he didn't just grab it then is beyond me. I guess an ounce of him knows he shouldn't be opening the front door without me.

This week my dad took my sisters families and my own family out to Chuck E Cheese to celebrate Brevy, Luke's, Teri and I's birthday's that have all been in the last month or so. The boys of course loved it nasty pizza, endless sprites, and lots of games. Yeah they were in heaven!

This week starting the night of Chuck E Cheese Lukey has been really sick. You know he is not feeling well when even a giant mouse cannot get him excited. He spent most of the night curled up in my arms drinking sprite. The rest of the week has been spent with him in his jammies and slippers laying on the couch watching movie after movie. This flu must have really been a doozy because usually even when Luke is sick you will never know it because he is still constantly on the go. But this round he has layed around looking sad more than I have ever seen from that little guy.
Thank goodness for snugly car slippers to make a boy feel better about life!

Yesterday he finally started feeling better, just has a nasty cough that is still hanging on but at least he is back to his normal self. Good thing, his brother missed his little buddy, Lance was thrilled to have his accomplice back in business with him.....

To end this week I made a delightful little Valentine treat to kick off this Valentine week. Eclair squares they were delicious, easy and make a ton. My only question now is what to do with the half a pan still leftover of them. Guess me and Katelynn have our work cut out for us tomorrow morning for breakfast, I think I can put a good dent into them. Katelynn and I we like our food!
And now for this next week I just put a little Lance to bed an hour earlier than usual with a fever and an upset stomach. I guess here we go for round 2 with sickness, I just hope he gets better before all of our Valentine parties this week, it would be a shame to miss out on all of that fun!
